Acknowledgments Introduction Cancer is the leading cause of mortality in the United States for those between the ages of 40–79 years, surpassing heart diseases by more than 100,000 deaths [1]. The cause of most cancer subtypes remains idiopathic and may arise out of ‘bad luck’ among otherwise

  2024-04-13

The original Aurora kinase was identified during a phenotypic screen for defects in mitotic spindles in Drosophila mutants. Aurora mutants were so named because of the morphological defects at the mitotic spindle resembling the Aurora borealis, or the Northern light [4]. The structure of the Auroras

The 15-LO-1 has so far only been found in humans and rabbit reticulocytes [3], [20] and the rabbit 15-LO-1 protein demonstrate 81% identity to the human 15-LO-1. However, rabbit monocytes express an enzyme with mainly 12-LO activity [20], [21]. The high degree of sequence conservation between these

• Telomerase action at the telomere

  2024-04-13

Telomerase action at the telomere is highly regulated; it preferentially elongates the shortest telomeres, and recruitment of the enzyme complex to the telomere occurs in mid-S phase of the cell cycle (Bianchi and Shore, 2007, Britt-Compton et al., 2009, Teixeira et al., 2004, Hemann et al., 2001, T

  2024-04-12

The previous reports studied only the apoptosis process in a single cell. In our case we generalized these models inspired by the results of Albeck et al. (2008) and Raychaudhuri et al. (2008), to study the apoptosis cell death after photodynamic therapy in those areas of the tumor that are not expo

AR signals and chemosensitivity in urothelial cancer A significant amount of patients with urothelial cancer fail to respond to cisplatin-based systemic chemotherapy, although it remains the mainstay of successful management of advanced disease. However, underlying mechanisms for chemoresistance

So far, many independent studies have linked cholesterol metabolism–related genes with AD, either by showing associations with specific polymorphisms or with differential Disulfiram levels (Beecham et al., 2014, Blain and Poirier, 2004, Lambert et al., 2009, Lambert et al., 2013, Leduc et al., 2015

Disclosure Acknowledgments Introduction Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK), a receptor tyrosine kinase, belongs to the insulin receptor kinase subfamily [1]. Oncogenic activation of ALK is associated with the 412 2 and progression of multiple human cancer types [2,3], including anaplastic la

Thus, we presumed that ALDH1A3 might play an important role in TMZ-chemoresistance in glioblastoma patients. As we expected, the glioblastoma cell lines and primary glioma PI-3065 were more sensitive to TMZ treatment when ALDH1A3 was inhibited or depleted. Consistently, it has been shown that downr

  2024-04-12

The functional observations from the present study are based on neoplastic derivative of 5 synthesis (HSY), and comparative expressions between normal salivary and pleomorphic adenoma tissues. One study has demonstrated that ω-3 PUFA reduced both cholesterol and caveolin-1 (a marker of raft), thereby displacing raft-associated signaling molecules from lipid raft [36]. Additionally, DHA treatment decreased the amount of lipid raft in the cell surface and displaced several lipid raft-associ

Protein blast analysis of the sequence of globin-B with those of other Remodelin suggests that the globin-B domain in the HemAC-Lm displays only 6% identity and 34% similarity with that of cytoglobin/neuroglobin (Fig. 2). Furthermore, SWISS-MODEL protein modeling also predicts that the His311 is th

The second evidence comes from the results obtained by patch-clamp recordings carried out at the endplate region of isolated mouse FDB fibers, where adenosine and the P1R agonist NECA significantly affected the NPo, the open frequency and the time constant τ of the adult nAChR channels. It is genera

  2024-04-12

Introduction Cell motility is fundamentally important in morphogenesis, wound healing, and the immune response. One of the best-studied basic types of cell movement is lamellipodial motility [1, 2], characterized by a thin (∼0.1–0.2 μm), broad (∼10–40 μm) motile appendage containing a dynamic YM1
