  2024-12-21

Finasteride has been shown to be a mechanism-based inhibitor of 5AR-2 [9]. Finasteride acts as an alternate substrate for 5AR-2 and is initially bound in an extremely stable enzyme-bound NADP-dihydrofinasteride adduct which is ultimately processed to dihydrofinasteride. The NADP-dihydrofinasteride a

  2024-12-20

Additional support for a role of HMGN1 in enhancing DNA repair comes from studies of transcription-coupled repair (TCR) in human cells. Lesions in the template strand of DNA induced by UV light stall the movement of RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) and interrupt transcription. Removal of these transcripti

  2024-12-20

The proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines, including IL-1β, TNF-α and MCP-1, mediate acute and chronic inflammation and play a role in the development of hypertension [2, [51], [52], [53]], cardiovascular diseases [4, 54] and renal injury [55, 56] in animal models and humans. Concerning the possi

• AMPK is a cellular energy sensor

  2024-12-20

AMPK is a cellular energy sensor that is phosphorylated in response to high intracellular ADP levels to increase GLUT4 translocation into the cell, and subsequently, increase intracellular glucose levels to provide substrate to replenish ATP levels [25]. In metabolic syndrome, sequestration of plasm

In the largest postmortem study of 3618 autopsied individuals, almost 75% of the individuals without Aβ pathology already harbored cortical NFT pathology mostly confined to the medial temporal regions (Murray et al., 2015). In Braak's study of 2366 autopsied individuals (Braak and Del Tredici, 2014)

  2024-12-20

Electron paramagnetic resonance studies of mixtures of Aβ1–40 and Aβ1–42 suggest that interlaced fibrils might also form [40] where Aβ1–40 and Aβ1–42 is found within the same fibril. Considering the Aβ fold rather than the sequence, these observations imply two mechanisms that might lower the total

  2024-12-20

Cell surface metalloproteases coordinate signaling during development, tissue homeostasis, and disease. A disintegrin and metalloprotease 17 (ADAM17) is a well-characterized member among ADAM family, which mediates the cleavage of various cell surface proteins (Black, 2002, Black et al., 1997, Dello

  2024-12-20

The AR signalling pathways play important roles in several physiopathological processes associated with ischaemia, inflammation, and tumourigenesis [35]. Moreover, A3AR is overexpressed in different tumour harmine hydrochloride and seems implicated in pro- or anti-apoptotic effects [36]. In particu

Our results showed that oral administration of cordycepin, in the concentrations of 5 and 10mg/kg for 3weeks, exerted no influence on body weight and hippocampus weight in mice. Although some reports have pointed out that cordycepin had toxic effects because it may be potential for inducing cell dea

To better understand the pathophysiology of ASDs, we would need comprehensive information on a) the functions of ASD-associated proteins in the brain, b) how mutations affect the expression level and function of these proteins, c) how mutations affect their function in neurons, and d) how changed ne

  2024-12-19

It has been recognized for decades that neurons in the mammalian central nervous system may release both a fast-acting, typically amino acid derived neurotransmitter such as glutamate or GABA, and a second peptidergic neuromodulatory molecule such as neuropeptide Y, substance P, or cholecystokinin.
